HC Deb 23 November 1977 vol 939 c780W
25. Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he proposes to ensure the lifting of the building embargo imposed by the South West Water Authority as a result of lack of public investment in sewerage at Bude and Wadebridge and thereby assist the construction industry in North Cornwall.

Mr. Marks

Building embargoes are imposed by the planning authority, but it gets advice from the water authority about the availability of water services. The problems at Bude and Wadebridge are a matter for the water authority to sort out with the local authority concerned in the light of overall priorities. I understand that existing planning permissions would allow some development to go ahead despite these embargoes.
