HC Deb 23 November 1977 vol 939 cc744-5W
Mr. MacGregor

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what he estimates would be the current costs in a full year to local authority social service departments and the Probation and After-Care Service of implementing Part II of the Children Act 1975.

Mr. John

It is not possible to quantify these costs precisely, but implementation of Part II would place additional tasks on local authority social services departments and the Probation and After-Care Service which are already heavily burdened. We are in touch with the representative bodies concerned about the demands on resources which implementation would involve, with a view to deciding when it may be possible to bring Part II into operation.
