§ Mr. Buchanan-Smithasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to deal with current redundancies in the fish processing industry in Scotland, in particular in relation to small firms that cannot qualify for temporary employment subsidy.
§ Mr. Gregor MacKenzieThe Government are considering the scheme submitted by the Herring Buyers' Association under which herring processors would be compensated for under-utilisation of equipment. Any employees in the industry who are made redundant will be eligible to benefit from the wide range of measures introduced by the Government to alleviate the effects of unemployment.
