Mr. Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish the number of new jobcentres established in North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire, respectively; where they are sited; the capital costs involved and their actual or estimated running costs.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that three jobcentres have been established in North Yorkshire and 20 in West Yorkshire. The jobcentre locations are listed below:

North Yorkshire

  • Malton—45 Wheelgate.
  • Scarborough—Pavilion House, Westborough.
  • York—13 Piccadilly.

West Yorkshire

  • Wakefield—24 Wood Street.
  • Leeds Commercial—Westminster House, Bond Street.
  • Leeds Industrial—Fairfax House, Merrion Street.
  • Huddersfield—Kirklees House, Market Street.
  • Wetherby—10 North Street.
  • South Elmsall—66 Barnsley Road.
  • Pontefract—1 Horsefair.

  • Pudsey—Park House, Park Square.
  • Rothwell—80 Commercial Street.
  • Brighouse—Wellington House, Briggate.

Cost information in respect of individual jobcentres is not readily available, but the cost of setting up an average job-centre was £45,220 in 1976 and average annual running costs were £83,196 when amortised setting up costs are included.
