HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 c240W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will undertake a thorough review of the various methods used for the calculation of entitlement to welfare and social security benefits in health, welfare and education, in order to ensure that the expenditure involved is being properly directed to where it is most needed, and that the possibility of fraud and overpayment is kept to reasonable proportions.

Mr. Carter

Policy and procedures for the payment of social security and other benefits are kept under constant review in order to meet changing circumstances, and to take advantage of new techniques and equipment. The prevention of abuse of the system and the need to ensure that all those with a right to a benefit receive what they are entitled to are given very careful attention at all times.
