HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 c279W
Mr. Wiggin

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how soon he expects to have an adequate number of rifle ranges reopened so that Regular and TAVR units are no longer restricted in their use of ranges.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

Since July 1977 five small arms ranges have been re-opened, one range has been reopened for restricted use, and another two are expected to reopen by mid-1978. However, the reopening of these ranges will not completely meet the range requirements of Regular and TAVR units. Plans are in hand for new ranges to be built and existing ranges modernised. This is an extensive programme which will be phased over the period 1978–1983 and should meet range requirements of Regular and TAVR units.
