HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 cc273-4W
Mr. Adley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if it remains his policy to take steps to deprive companies which breach the Government's pay guidelines of contracts or business with Government Departments; and if the policy, as already applied to companies in the private sector, will be applied similarly to companies in the public sector.

Mr. Joel Barnett

It remains our policy not to reward firms who breach the pay guidelines with contracts. We have made it clear that the Government will do everything possible to secure that full account is taken of this guidance throughout the public sector.

Mr. Adley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list those companies against which specific action has been taken by way of deprivation of contacts or business with Government Departments, in the light of pay agreements reached by those companies which exceed the Government pay guidelines and if he will specify the precise action taken.

Mr. Joel Barnett

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Melton (Mr. Latham) on 8th November.—[Vol. 938, c.77.]
