asked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to publicise the need for motor cycle training; and whether he will make a statement.

All first applicants for provisional licences are given a leaflet advising them to undergo training if they intend to ride motor cycles. Many local authorities also publicise the need for training in their areas. In addition, we intend to mount a national publicity campaign next year on motor cycle safety. One part of this will be aimed at riders to encourage them to take training.
