HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 c242W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities in existence immediately prior to reorganisation did not operate a pension scheme for their employees; and how many do not do so at present.

Mr. Guy Barnett

Apart from parish councils, which do not normally provide pensions for their staffs, all local authorities in existence immediately before reorganisation operated pension arrangements for their permanent whole-time employees and all now in existence do so. Regulations are to be made enabling part-time employees working 21 hours or more a week to opt for super-annuability if they desire it.
