asked the Secretary of State for Trade why the EEC changed the basis of United Kingdom trade statistics in its Eurostat figures between 1973 and 1974 without explanation or notification.

If the hon. Member will provide details of the specific change to which he refers I will look into the matter, though of course I have no direct responsibility for Eurostat publications. There have been no fundamental changes in the basis of the trade statistics in United Kingdom official publications which are the best source for national statistics.
