HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 cc280-1W
Mr. Adam Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many cases of alleged unfair dismissal have gone before industrial tribunals so far in the current year; how many of these have found in favour of the employer; how many cases, other than those concerned with dismissals, the tribunals have dealt with; and what were the main matters with which these were concerned.

Mr. Harold Walker

Provisional figures for the first six months of 1977 indicate that 6,737 cases alleging unfair dismissal have been dealt with at tribunal hearings. Of these 4,608 cases—68 per cent.—have been found in favour of the employer. In the same period, provisionally 2,690 other cases were heard. The majority of these concerned redundancy payments, equal pay, sex discrimination, contracts of employment and guarantee payments.
