§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish the numbers and categories of the four highest and four lowest paid groups of workers in his Department at October 1974; and to what extent these workers' standards of living have risen or fallen as at October 1977 allowing for wage and salary increases and the rise or fall in the cost of living and the purchasing value of the £ sterling.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonDetails of the categories concerned in the Treasury are as follows:
two children under 11 years and with a total family income of £8,000 in each of the following circumstances: (a) when all the income is earned by the father, (b) when £4,500 is earned by the father, £1,500 is earned by the mother, and each child has a settled income of £1,000,(c) when £5,000 is earned by the father, £2,000 is investment income belonging to the father and £1,000 is investment income belonging to the mother and (d) as in (c), but assuming that the parents separate and that the father makes a settlement of £1,000 per annum on each child and on the wife.
