Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he will publish in the Official Report the total amount of moneys paid out of public funds to the three major political parties.

Mr. Foot

As at 10th November 1977 a total of £541,540.70 had been paid from the House of Commons Vote in respect of financial aid to Opposition parties under the terms of the Resolution of the House of 20th March 1975. This sum is made up of payments to the Conservative Party £412,500; Liberal Party, £92,468; Scottish National Party, £26,669.50; Plaid Cymru, £6,410.70; Social Democratic Labour Party, £3,492.50.
