HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 c145W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) if the local constabulary is informed when plutonium is transported through areas for which it is responsible; and what advance notice is given;

(2) what facilities exist for co-operation between the Atomic Energy Authority special constables and the local police (a) at nuclear power station sites and (b) in areas through which plutonium is being transported.

Mr. Eadie

The Atomic Energy Authority Constabulary works in close consultation with the police forces of the areas concerned, both in relation to the movement of plutonium and the protection of nuclear sites for which that Constabulary is responsible, but it would not be in the public interest to give details of the arrangements. The AEA Constabulary is not, however, responsible for nuclear power stations owned by the generating boards.
