HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 c157W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment in connection with provision for the mentally handicapped, what study he has made of group homes for mentally handicapped people in Sweden; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Armstrong

Officials of the Department of Health and Social Security visited group homes in Sweden in 1971. We believe the concept of group homes to be worth while, and the Government's recent consultative document on housing policy identified this as one of a range of ways in which the housing needs of many mentally handicapped people can be met in the community.
