the Health Service provides for the planning of a scheme of initial reconstruction to modernise the hospital's facilities. The details of the scheme have now been finalised and will be announced tomorrow, 16th November, by my noble Friend Lord Melchett. This scheme does not involve any increase in the total bed complement of the hospital.

§ Mr. CarterNo public money has been spent on new buildings and equipment at the Mater Hospital since it came under public control, but the Eastern Health and Social Services Board, which administers the hospital, has undertaken some urgently needed renovations of existing facilities, pending final decisions on the scheme of initial reconstruction for which the deed of arrangement provides.
