HC Deb 11 November 1977 vol 938 cc259-60W
Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many local education authorities appoint boards of governors whose membership is not different in composition from the authority committees responsible for the schools in question; and if she will list them.

Miss Margaret Jackson:

A study conducted between 1965 and 1969 showed that more than 20 local education authori- ties then had arrangements of this kind. Chapter 2 of the Taylor Report on school government suggests that the number is now much smaller, but I regret that de-detailed information is not available.
