HC Deb 11 November 1977 vol 938 c262W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if warning signs are displayed on vehicles transporting plutonium.

Mr. William Rodgers:

I have been asked to reply.

The Radioactive Substances (Carriage by Road) (Great Britain) Regulations, for which I am responsible, call for the placarding of vehicles with a "hazard diamond" label when vehicles carry radioactive materials including plutonium. The hazard diamond contains the internationally approved trefoil symbol and the word "Radioactive" as a warning to the emergency services and members of the public.
