Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what progress the Institute of Hearing Research has made in its investigations into cochlea implants; (2) what steps he is taking to ensure consumer representation on the Institute of Hearing Research; (3) what is the size of the staff of the Institute of Hearing Research; how many new people have been employed there since the Institute was established; and what are their specialities; (4) how much money was originally allocated by the Government for capital and running costs for the Institute of Hearing Research; how much money has been actually spent so far on the Institute; and what is the present allocation of money for capital and running costs; (5) if she will list in theOfficial Reportthe medical disciplines involved in the Institute of Hearing search; what contact officials of the Institute have made with specialists abroad. and what subjects they have studied.
