HC Deb 10 November 1977 vol 938 c244W
Sir Frederic Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list those countries the sending of a delegation of investigators to which, to date, he has instructed the representative of Her Majesty's Government to support in the Commission on Human Rights.

Mr. Luard:

The Government supported the formation by the Commission on Human Rights of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Chile in 1975. In 1977 we made vigorous efforts to secure an investigation of the situation in Uganda.

In addition, the Government have this year supported investigation into the situation in all five countries referred to the Commission under the procedure established by Resolution 1503 of the Economic and Social Council. I regret that I cannot name the countries concerned because this procedure is confidential.
