asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total amount of Government and local authority subsidy given to public authority housing in England and Wales, respectively ; and if he will express these totals as an annual total per publicly owned house.

Mr. Armstrong:

The amount of housing subsidy, excluding rent rebates paid by Exchequer and local authorities to the HRAs of local authorities and to new town development corporations in 1976–77 and the annual total per publicly owned dwelling in England and Wales respectively were as follows:
