§ Mr. Kenneth Clarkeasked the Secretary of State for Trade what steps Her Majesty's Government have so far taken to commend the EEC code of conduct on employment practices for companies which have subsidiaries in South Africa to British companies ; what progress has been made in issuing new guidelines for the use of the code ; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Meacher:The text of the new code of conduct has been published for the information of companies and other interested parties. We intend to commend it to British companies with investment in South Africa with appropriate guidance for implementation. My right hon. Friend will be meeting the TUC and the CBI shortly to discuss this guidance.
