§ 17. Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received about unemployment in the building industry and what plans he has to increase the additional £400 million allocated to this industry in his 26th October financial statement.
§ Mr. Joel Barnett:My right hon. Friend has received representations from many sources. The increases in expenditure on construction which he has announced for 1978–79 will offset the reductions made last year, and the programmes for the following year are being increased so as to maintain next year's level of expenditure. It is this stability which many of those in the industry have been seeking.
