14. Mr. loan Evansasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action is proposed on proposals for investment and arms trade sanctions with South Africa.
§ Dr. Owen:The United Kingdom on 4th of November voted for a Security Council resolution, which was unanimously adopted, calling for a mandatory embargo on arms supplies to South Africa. The resolution did not contain any provision for a limitation on investment.
§ 20. Mr. MacKayasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he next intends to meet the Prime Minister of South Africa.
§ Mr. Rowlands:My right hon. Friend has no such plans at present.
§ 28. Mr. Luceasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on relations between the United Kingdom and South Africa.

§ Mr. Rowlands:We took very strong exception to the repressive measures carried out by the South African Government on 19th October. My right hon. Friend issued a strong statement and summoned the South African Ambassador to convey the views of the British Government to Pretoria. We also joined in a strongly worded démarcheto the South African Government presented on behalf of the Nine by the Belgian Ambassador in Pretoria.
§ Mr. Tim Rentonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has plans to visit South Africa after the South African elections.
§ Mr. Rowlands:My right hon. Friend has no plans to do so.
