HC Deb 09 November 1977 vol 938 c125W
Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the effect of Soviet economic warfare on Western shipping and on his talks in the USSR.

Mr. Clinton Davis:

I have been asked to reply.

Western shipping is suffering adverse effects as a result of rate-cutting and the provision of excessive capacity on certain trade routes by the USSR.

As regards my recent talks in the USSR, and possible further steps which might be taken to defend our shipping interests, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull, West (Mr. Johnson) on 8th November.—[Vol. 938, c. 94.]
