HC Deb 09 November 1977 vol 938 c137W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is satisfied with the state of the pig industry in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Morris:

The pigmeat industry in Wales has been facing the same difficulties as the industry in the rest of the United Kingdom, leading to a reduction in the breeding herd. The prospects for pig producers have improved recently with firmer prices and reductions in feed costs. We are, however, continuing our efforts to secure a fairer system of monetary compensatory amounts so as to improve the competitive position of all sectors of the industry including the processors.
