HC Deb 09 November 1977 vol 938 c99W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether he intends to refer the question of profit margins on proprietary medicines and associated bodies to the Prices Commission; and what purpose he hopes that any reference would have.

Mr. Maclennan:

On 12th September my right hon. Friend directed the Price Commission to examine prices, costs and margins in the production and distribution of proprietary non-ethical medicines. The purpose of an examination is to obtain from the Commission findings of fact relating to prices and charges in a particular field as well as indications of any matter which in the opinion of the Commission needs to be remedied.
