§ Mr. Adam Butlerasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what annual weight of meat was exported in carcase form for each of the last five years; and what proportion this represented of the total export of meat from the United Kingdom.

§ Mr. John Silkin:In the case of live cattle exported from the United Kingdom to the Federal Republic of Germany, the United Kingdom MCA charge falls due on the completion of export formalities in the United Kingdom and the German MCA charge is payable on entry into the Federal Republic of Germany. This procedure has not changed since June 1973. Under the provisions of the Agricultural Levies (Export Control) Regulations 1977 exporters are required either to provide an adequate guarantee or to pay the MCA charges at the time of export. The current rate of MCA on live cattle exported from the United Kingdom is £16.972 per 100k/g.
I have given instructions that all necessary information and assistance should be provided to the Northern Ireland exporter concerned.
