HC Deb 09 November 1977 vol 938 cc133-4W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the amount of moneys paid per annum of public funds to Lord Carver before his appointment for duties in Rhodesia; and what is the rate of pay for this new appointment.

Mr. Tomlinson:

I have been asked to reply.

Before his appointment as Resident Commissioner (designate) Lord Carver received the retired pay of a field marshal. The rate for this was £11,604 a year. Since his appointment, his total emoluments from public funds have been equivalent to full field marshal's pay, and amount to £19,882 a year including the 1977 pay supplement.
