§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Defence what progress he has made towards achieving his target of 218,000 Services, civilian and defence industry job losses by 1979, in consequence of the present Government's defence cuts.
§ Dr. Gilbert :The target reduction for Service and civilian personnel amounted to 38,000 and 40,000 respectively. Reductions amounting to 23,000 Service personnel and 29,000 civilians have been achieved so far. There has never been any target for reductions in employment in the defence industries.
