HC Deb 27 May 1977 vol 932 c652W
Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what assistance she intends to give to the programme now being undertaken by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to assist refugees in Thailand and other countries in Asia.

Mrs. Hart

The Government have decided to give £250,000 towards the programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for material assistance to refugees and displaced persons in Thailand—including many from Kampuchea, formerly Cambodia—and in other countries in Asia and for help with their resettlement.

Parliamentary approval of this new service will be sought in a Supplementary Estimate for the Overseas Aid Vote. Pending that approval the necessary expenditure will be met by a repayable advance from the Contingencies Fund.
