Whether they will state the names and qualifications of the members of the Southern Water Authority; and what is the total cost including remuneration and expenses of this Board to the consumers of water.

The names and qualifications of the members of the Southern Water Authority are as follows: Mr. A. H. M. Smyth, MA, Mrs. I. F. Candy, CBE, BSc(Econ), Mr. J. S. Meadows, OBE, JP, MIPM, Dr. D. C. S. Pascall, Mr. E. J. Pipe, CEng, FIMechE, MBIM, Mr. C. T. H. Plant, CBE, Mr. D. S. Richardson, Mr. P. Langmead, NDA, Mr. J. M. Williams, Mr. A. E. Barrage, Mr. J. Barr, Mr. R. Darken, Mr. A. B. Haworth-Booth, Mr. N. P. Mackilligin, JP, Mr. A. G. Porter, TD, Mr. E. S. M. Chadwick, FCIS, MBIM, MIPM, Mr. M. Dyer, Mr. E. J. W. Cuer, FPS, Mr. N. B. Clark. Of these, the last 10 are appointed by the local authorities in the Region. Of the Ministerial appointees, two represent agriculture, land drainage and fisheries interests. The remaining Ministerial members are required to have had experience of, and shown capacity in, some matters relevant to the functions of water authorities. In the case of this Authority, the members have experience of labour relations, recreation, industry, local government and academic life. I understand from the Authority that the total cost of payments of remuneration, expenses, travelling and financial loss allowances to the members during the last financial year was £22,000.
