HC Deb 26 May 1977 vol 932 c597W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if there is a selective scheme for the pharmaceutical products industry; and, if so, what assistance has been given in the United Kingdom and Scotland, respectively, in terms of the scheme.

Mr. Cryer

There is no scheme of selective assistance directed exclusively towards the pharmaceutical products industry. But companies in this sector can apply for Section 8 assistance under the Selective Investment Scheme, which is directed at manufacturing industry as a whole, and those located in the assisted areas are eligible for regional selective assistance under Section 7 of the Industry Act 1972. Assistance under these two sections totalling £3,307,196 has been offered towards 27 projects in the pharmaceutical products industry. Six of these projects, which together attracted £614,400 in assistance were located in Scotland.
