§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Industry if there is a selective scheme for the pharmaceutical products industry; and, if so, what assistance has been given in the United Kingdom and Scotland, respectively, in terms of the scheme.
§ Mr. CryerThere is no scheme of selective assistance directed exclusively towards the pharmaceutical products industry. But companies in this sector can apply for Section 8 assistance under the Selective Investment Scheme, which is directed at manufacturing industry as a whole, and those located in the assisted areas are eligible for regional selective assistance under Section 7 of the Industry Act 1972. Assistance under these two sections totalling £3,307,196 has been offered towards 27 projects in the pharmaceutical products industry. Six of these projects, which together attracted £614,400 in assistance were located in Scotland.
