asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the main components of the increases in Inland Revenue wage costs from £147 million in 1973–74 to £292 million in 1976–77; and what amount is attributable to each of these.

A full analysis is not yet available for 1976–77, but on the basis of provisoinal figures the increase for that year as compared with 1973–74 may be attributed to:
