HC Deb 26 May 1977 vol 932 c571W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the average cost of a new four-apartment private house at the start of the incomes policy; what is the average cost of a similar house now; and what is the increase in percentage terms.

Mr. Armstrong

The average price of a newly built private dwelling of five habitable rooms—including a kitchen but excluding bathrooms—in the United Kingdom in the third quarter of 1975 was £10,320 and in the first quarter of 1977 was £12,050; the increase was therefore 16.8 per cent.
