§ Mr. Luceasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what facilities are provided in prisons for prisoners to see their relations, particularly when there are serious family problems.
§ Mr. JohnAn unconvicted prisoner may have daily visits. A convicted prisoner may have a visit on reception, and is entitled to regular visits every four weeks. Many prisons allow visits more frequently. The Prison Rules provide that a governor may allow an additional visit where necessary for the welfare of the prisoner or his family. Visits normally take place in an open room, supervised by staff. Relatives may qualify for help in meeting travel costs.
