§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Energy how many full-and part-time appointments, respectively, are made by him which are not subject to regulation by the Civil Service Commission; what is the total sum paid annually as salary and expenses for such appointments; and if he will take steps to reduce the number of such posts.
§ Mr. BennI am at present responsible for 55 full-time and 96 part-time appointments to the boards of nationalised industries which are not subject to regulation by the Civil Service Commission. Annual salaries paid total some £835,000; expenses incurred on the business of the boards are reimbursed. The numbers of posts filled within the statutory complement reflect the needs of individual boards and are kept under regular review.
