§ Mr. Robin F. Cookasked the Secretary of State for Energy what was (a) the peak demand on electricity in the year to 30th April 1977 and (b) how many megawatts of generating capacity were available on the date of peak demand.

Public supply electricity system, Great Britain, year ended 30th April 1977 Simultaneous maximum load(a) met (megawatts) 47,902 Public supply electricity system—output capacity of plant available at time of simultaneous maximum load (mega watts) 53,220 (a) Defined as the maximum load on the grid at any one time plus the load on stations not connected to the grid, and is the sum of the maximum load met by the Central Electricity Generating Board, and the loads met at the same time by the two Electricity Boards in Scotland.
