§ Mr. Richard Wainwrightasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) if he will list in the Official Report the principal legislation from which he has powers regulating the export of live animals from British ports in (a) British vessels and (b) foreign vessels; and at what point in the voyage his responsibility ceases;
(2) if he is satisfied with the present arrangement concerning the regulation of the export of live animals from British ports; and if he will make a statement;
(3) if he is satisfied with the working of the present arrangements concerning the conditions in which live animals are to be kept during export from British ports on British vessels; and if he will make a statement.

§ Mr. StrangI refer the hon. Member to my replies to the hon. Members for Uxbridge (Mr. Shersby) and Plymouth, Drake (Miss Fookes) on 17th March and 21st April, respectively—[Vol. 928, c.300; Vol. 930, c. 122–3.] These regulations are designed to protect the animals throughout the voyage and I am satisfied that they are effective in preventing unnecessary suffering.
