HC Deb 18 May 1977 vol 932 cc186-7W
Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons are at present undergoing training leading to a qualification in speech therapy; what has been the average number of persons leaving training each year with a speech therapy qualification since 1971; and what is the number of unfilled speech therapy positions in England and Wales at the present time.

Mr. Deakins

There are about 750 speech therapy students at present in training in England and Wales. The average number of persons leaving training each year with a speech therapy qualification since 1971 is 171. There are no nationally agreed staffing levels. The current number of unfilled posts is not available centrally.
