HC Deb 16 May 1977 vol 932 c78W
Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is to be the total planned reduction in London-based service and civilian Ministry of Defence staff by 1979 in consequence of the defence review.

Dr. Gilbert

The defence review was conducted not on the basis of where staff worked but on a review of commitments. Consequently, information is not available in the form requested by the hon. Member. However, by 1st April 1979 we aim to reduce MOD Headquarter staff, most of whom are based in London, by 9–10 per cent. of the strength as at 1st April 1974. There will be further reductions in subsequent years.
