HC Deb 16 May 1977 vol 932 c64W
Sir Edward Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what results have been achieved by the steering group set up to consider the planning and transportation problems of the city of Bath.

Mr. Shore

The report of the chairman of the steering group which the Secretary of State for Transport and I endorse is published today. Copies are available in the Library. It sets out guidelines for the traffic, planning and conservation policies for the city. These guidelines, which may also be relevant to other historic towns, recognise the special position of Bath in the national heritage, and point to a way in which modern-day requirements can be balanced with conservation. The group has not only produced practical guidelines but has also shown that the conflicting interests of those involved with the city's problems can be reconciled.
