(2) how many kilowatt hours of electricity were generated in Wales in 1976; and how many he estimates will be generated in 1981.
§ Mr. EadieInformation compiled for the Digest of Welsh Statistics, but not yet published, shows that 12.6 Twh of electricity were sold to consumers in Wales in 1976 by the public supply 553W system, which in the same year generated 24.5 Twh. One Twh is 1,000 million kilowatt-hours.
The amount of electricity generated in Wales in 1981 will depend upon the level of demand in Wales and in England, plant availability at that time and other factors. No increase in existing capacity is envisaged before 1981, except at the pumped storage station at Dinorwic.
I am asking the Chairman of the Electricity Council to write to the hon. Member giving the information he seeks about the growth of electricity consumption in Wales between 1976 and 1981.
