Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many British Airways flights were diverted to regional airports during the recent engineers dispute at Heathrow; if he will list the airports and the number of flights involved; and if he will indicate the number of protests about noise received by his Department at each airport handling the extra traffic.

No long-haul flights were diverted to regional airports in the United Kingdom. Short-haul arrivals were diverted from Heathrow in the following numbers:

Birmingham 1
Bournemouth (Hurn) 55
East Midlands (Castle Donington) 8
Gatwick 3
Luton 10
Southampton 229
Stanstead 10
No complaints relating to these diversions have been received by the Department.
