§ Mr. David Priceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the loss of tax revenue in 1977–78 and in a full year, respectively, if the mobility allowance were to be made tax free.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 9th May 1977], circulated the following answer:
I regret that information on which to base a precise estimate is not available, but the loss of revenue would be unlikely to exceed £2 million in 1977–78 and £12 million when the mobility allowance scheme is fully operational.
