HL Deb 10 May 1977 vol 383 cc232-4WA
Lord ORR-EWING

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many serving civil servants, including staff of public bodies and the diplomatic service, hold knighthoods, and how many did so in 1950 and 1964.

The LORD PRIVY SEAL (Lord Peart)

Information about the holding of knighthoods by the staff of public bodies is not available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. So far as civil servants are concerned, the comparable figures are as follows:

Home Civil service
1950 115
1964 76
1977 46
Diplomatic service
1950 63
1964 92
1977 33
The figures for the Diplomatic Service for 1950 and 1964 include the Colonial Office and the Commonwealth Relations Office.

House adjourned at twenty-six minutes past six o'clock.
