§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Defence what evaluation has been undertaken by the Royal Navy of the Boeing jetfoil hydrofoil craft; and if its use can be evaluated against available alternatives for fishing limit surveillance and North Sea oil rig protection surveillance.
§ Mr. DuffyThe Boeing Company's Jetfoil "Flying Princess" was kindly made available to the Ministry of Defence for technical trials and demonstrations at Rosyth and Portsmouth in April and earlier this month. The results are currently being evaluated. The Boeing jetfoil will be one of the possible options studied in the course of the consideration of the provision of new ships to replace the Ton class vessel in the fishery protection squadron.
