HC Deb 10 May 1977 vol 931 c450W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the expenditure on postgraduate training of doctors in each of the last five years.

Mr. Moyle

Expenditure on postgraduate training of general practitioners has been as follows:

£
1971–72 1,046,000
1972–73 1,594,000
1973–74 2,266,000
1974–75 3,190,000
1975–76 5,199,000
The final figure for 1976–77 is not yet available but it is expected to be about £7 million.

Information about expenditure on postgraduate training for hospital medical staff is not collected regularly by the Department. However, a survey of health authorities for 1972–73 showed expenditure of £2.5 million, and it was estimated that in 1974–75 expenditure would have increased to £3.3 million.
