HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 cc361-2W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will review the penalties for infringements of the Weights and Measures Acts, and seek to bring them into line with the penalties provided in other more recent consumer protection legislation, such as the Trade Descriptions Act, the Prices Act and the Consumer Credit Act.

Mr. John Fraser

The penalty for certain offences under the Weights and Measures Act 1963 was increased from £20 to £50 by the Weights and Measures Etc. Act 1976. When the Weights and Measures Act 1963 is next amended I shall consider the case for bringing the penalties for the other offences into line with those in other legislation.
