Member for Islington, South and Finsbury on 4th May for the savings resulting from the closure of one ward at St. Mark's Hospital, showing how much is saved for each kind of expenditure avoided, such as on nurses' wages, heating, drugs, and on other things.

§ Mr. George Cunninghamasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the number of patients not admitted to St. Mark's Hospital during 1977 because of the closure of one ward; how many of these have consequently been treated in other hospitals; and whether this factor has been taken into account in calculating his figure of £6,000 a month as the savings resulting from the closure of the ward.
§ Mr. MoyleIn comparison with the first three months of last year 84 fewer patients have been discharged from St. Mark's Hospital in the first three months of this year. The number of patients admitted to other hospitals because of bed closures at St. Mark's is not known and no account should be taken of them in calculations.
